Rear- and side-discharge conveyors, magnetic metal separation, and a forklift waste hopper let facilities tailor pallet reduction to their floor space and material handling process.
LIVINGSTON, N.J., September 24, 2026 — Franklin Miller Inc., a manufacturer of solids reduction equipment since 1918, has expanded the discharge options available on its TASKMASTER® XL Pallet Shredder, giving plants, warehouses, and distribution centers greater flexibility in how shredded wood is collected, conveyed, and cleaned of metal.
The TASKMASTER® XL reduces entire natural wood pallets — nails included — to chips or mulch, dramatically cutting bulk volume for disposal, recycling, or biomass fuel applications. The expanded discharge lineup allows the same machine to be configured around a facility's existing dumpsters, aisle widths, and forklift traffic rather than the other way around.
Four Ways to Move Material
Rear Discharge Conveyor. A cleated belt conveyor lifts shredded pallet material and discharges it directly into the customer's dumpster. The conveyor has its own gearmotor and VFD and can be powered by a common switch from the XL main control. When a container fills, it can be swapped without disturbing the shredder. Casters allow the conveyor to be rolled aside for storage when the unit is not in service.

Side-Discharge Conveyor. The side-discharge configuration carries material out through the side of the machine and lifts it to the discharge point, allowing the TASKMASTER® XL to be positioned close to a wall — a meaningful advantage in tight receiving areas. Like the rear-discharge unit, it offers variable-speed operation, starts and stops from the XL's main control panel, and removes easily for maintenance or storage.

Magnetic Metal Separation. Either conveyor configuration can be equipped with a magnetic separation system that automatically pulls ferrous nails and other metal contaminants out of the shredded wood, producing a cleaner output stream for mulch, animal bedding, or fuel end uses.
Forklift Waste Hopper. For facilities that prefer to skip conveyors entirely, the XL's gravity-discharge design allows shredded material to fall directly into a purpose-built waste hopper. The hopper is sized for a standard forklift and uses a latched, pivoting design for fast, controlled dumping.
Built for Continuous Duty
The TASKMASTER® XL is ruggedly constructed of carbon steel with a heavy epoxy coating and ships complete with stand, hopper, and controls. A direct-coupled gear drive keeps operation smooth and simple, with no drive belts to re-tension. A single-pallet hopper directs each pallet into the cutting chamber, where low-speed, high-torque cutting action minimizes wear while maximizing throughput. Automatic reversing PLC controls detect and clear jams without operator intervention.
Cutting the Cost of Pallet Disposal
Pallet disposal is a persistent and often underestimated expense, frequently requiring multiple solid waste pickups per week and consuming valuable floor and yard space. By reducing whole pallets to chips on site, the TASKMASTER® XL compresses that volume substantially — cutting hauling frequency, freeing up dock and storage areas, and turning a waste stream into reusable mulch, bedding, or biomass fuel.
The shredder is used across warehousing, distribution, food and beverage, lumber, manufacturing, and municipal operations wherever wood pallets accumulate faster than they can be repaired or resold.
Manufactured in the USA
The TASKMASTER® XL is proudly manufactured in the USA at Franklin Miller's Livingston, New Jersey facility, ensuring local availability of technical support and spare parts for uninterrupted service and maintenance.
